Michaela Duarte is a self-taught wig stylist and costume designer from Redding, California. As an avid participant in the local theatre community, Michaela began her behind the scenes work as a costume assistant for the Cascade Theatre, Shasta College, and Axiom Repertory Theatre, quickly moving up the ranks to full fledged dresser and designer. While she loves building costumes, her true expertise is in wig styling. After working for and then owning her own children’s party entertainment business, Michaela carefully studied reference photos, Youtube tutorials, and community advice to hone her skills, especially enjoying the classes she took from former Disney Parks wig stylists. Currently, Michaela is getting ready to finish her B.A. in Theatre Arts at UCLA, where she will continue to learn all she can about both design and performance.

My first Costume collection was created in 2016 for the purpose of wearing these gowns for reenactments. The Gold dress is a Victorian ball gown inspired by the 1860’s. Made from silk brocade and linen undergarments adorned with satin covered buttons. The Red dress is inspired from the 1870’s with the use of a bustle. Made out of upholstery fabric and accented with curtain trim. The final gown, the Blue dress, was inspired by the 1890’s when women started to phase out bustles. This midnight blue dress was made with silk fabric, silk trim, and satin covered ivory buttons.
