The restored building served as the Shasta County Courthouse for three decades in the late 1800s. Today, the building houses the visitor center and information desk along with exciting, interactive exhibits depicting the history of Shasta, “Queen City of the Northern Mines.”
The courtroom, jail and gallows have been restored to the 1860s and furnished with many original items to interpret Shasta County justice in the long-gone days of the gold rush. Visitors are often startled by the storytelling “ghost” still locked in the jail.
Another attraction at the Courthouse Museum is the spectacular art gallery that displays 100 years of California Art.
